While rain may have forced the Lumberjacks to practice inside today, it did little to dampen the competitive nature of the team as they donned shoulder pads for the first time of the 2012 campaign. With the addition of shoulder pads practice was, as expected, even more physical. That physicality was especially evident during the team periods of today’s practice which focused on specific situations, and more specifically, 3rd down situations. The two team sessions occurring both in the middle and at the end of practice were dominated by the defense and featured some big plays. On the defensive side, both safeties Taylor Patton and Mike Dosen intercepted passes while newcomer Quentin Kantaris registered a sack. However, the defensive performer of the day was Tim Wilkinson who had a number of impact plays from his defensive tackle position. On the offensive side of the ball, Cal transfer running back Covaughn Deboskie broke off a long run thanks to some key blocks and sophomore tight end R. J. Rickert made a nice concentrated catch in traffic.
The Jacks are back on the practice field Monday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
