NAU Hosts Elite 7-on-7 Passing Tournament

Hundreds of high school football players and fans enjoyed cool temperatures and sunny skies as they competed at the Jerome Souers High Mountain Challenge. More than 2,500 people attended the two-day event that attracted athletes from across Arizona and as far as Los Angeles.

Dominguez High of Compton, Calif. placed first in Saturday’s upper division 7-on-7 passing tournament, defeating Chaparral High of Scottsdale in the finals. On Sunday, Mingus High of Cottonwood defeated Buckeye High to earn the lower division crown.

Sabino High took first in the upper division Big Man Competition on Saturday, edging out Chaparral. Mingus was first on Sunday with Buckeye taking second. Flagstaff’s Coconino High placed third.

The weekend tournament wrapped up NAU’s week of local camps. Last Wednesday the NAU coaching staff held an individual skills camp at Desert Vista High School in Chandler. NAU also hosted at skills camp on Friday. More 130 high school players attended the one-day event.

Everything went extremely smooth and we want to thank camp director Francis St. Paul for all his hard work. With his leadership NAU (according to several coaches in attendance on Saturday) runs the best, most competitive 7-on-7 passing tournament in the state of Arizona.
