Fall Camp Practice Five Report

Tuesday’s practice was the first of the 2012 season in full-pads for the Lumberjacks. The practice, again inside the dome due to afternoon monsoon storms, featured some one-on-one drills between wide receivers and defensive backs and offensive and defensive linemen to get the tempo and enthusiasm of the practice up. The team sessions of the day were very competitive and focused on situational football and mostly red zone situations. The results of the first two team sessions were fairly balanced, however the offense eventually pulled away in the final team red zone periods. Stand outs today on the offensive side included receivers Jesse Bueno, Jesse Brantley, and Jeremy Dang. On the defensive side the defensive line continued to impress, especially Justin Jungblut and Zach McDonnell.

Wednesday is the Lumberjacks first two-a-day practice with the morning session in full pads beginning at 10:30 am and the afternoon session in shells (helmets and shoulder pads) starting at 5:00 pm.

Offense Impressive in Jacks first scrimmage of the Spring

The  Lumberjack offense used the first scrimmage of the spring to show off their new look. During the forty play, full contact scrimmage the offense piled up four touchdowns, with two of those belonging to Jeremy Dang. While the defense did have their moments, Saturday was dominated by the offense. The Lumberjacks are back on the practice field Tuesday and their next scrimmage will be Friday, April 13th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. To see some sights from Saturday enjoy the video below!

Football Scrimmage Tomorrow

The NAU football team will hold an extended scrimmage tomorrow at Sinagua Middle School. Practice will begin at 10 am and scrimmage action will probably get underway around 11 am. This is NOT our final spring scrimmage — that will take place next Saturday, April 30 at 11 am at Sinagua. But Coach Souers hopes to see 60-plus plays of 11-on-11 with some special teams scenarios as well. Tomorrow’s forecast expects a high of 65 degrees and light winds.

The Jacks scrimmaged a bit on Thursday. Below are a few shots of the exchange. There are more in the Spring Gallery.
