Lumberjacks Race by Ft. Lewis College During Dome Reopening

The NAU Lumberjacks reopened the Skydome in grand fashion this past Saturday when they beat Ft. Lewis College by the score of 58 – 13. The Jacks used big plays on offense and lockdown defense to thump the Skyhawks of Ft. Lewis.

The festivities on Saturday included the reopening of the Skydome, the annual running of the freshmen, and NAU Football Alumni Weekend. Photos from the game are now up on here and on our Flickr site.

Players of the week for the game against Ft. Lewis were:

Photos from NAU-EWU Football

The game didn’t turn out liked we had hoped, but the Jacks hung in the entire day and competed to the end. The defense shut down FCS’s top back, Taiwan Jones, to 48 yards on 16 carries and knocked him out of the game in the second half. The offense moved the ball most of the day, but just couldn’t punch it in. Chase Stangel did an admirable job coming in for the injured Michael Herrick. NAU will host Montana State this weekend in the Skydome. No more red turf! You can see photos from the game at the Flickr gallery.

Day 12: Scrimmage Saturday for NAU Football

The NAU football team held its first extended scrimmage in the Skydome on Saturday. As expected the defense made some stops and delivered a few big hits, while the offense was able to move the ball at times and scored three times. Michael Herrick found Daiveun Curry-Chapman for a touchdown pass. Backup Chase Stangel threw two touchdown passes — one to Khalil Paden and another to freshman Iffy Umodu. The Jacks are off tomorrow, but will be back on the field on Monday for another double-practice day. See more pictures at our Flickr gallery.
