NAU Football Players of the Week vs Idaho State
During NAU’s 50-10 win this past weekend over Idaho State there were a few individual performances that stood out. The NAU Football coaching staff recognized the following players as Players of the Week against Idaho State:
Co-Offensive Players of the Week:
Nick Cole, Junior Wide Receiver, Concord, CA
Cole has proven to be a reliable target for Quarterback Cary Grossart all season long and caught a team high six passes for 84 yards against Idaho State.
Dejzon Walker, Sophomore Wide Receiver, Chandler, AZ
Dejzon “Mustard” Walker caught four passes for 74 yards including an 11 yard touchdown catch and a 50 yard reception on the first play of the game.
Blocking “Bone” of the Week
Austin Shanks, Senior Wide Receiver, Pacoima, CA
Shanks, who is mostly known for what he does with the football, earned the blocking bone of the week against Idaho State for what he did when he didn’t have the football. Shanks provided several important blocks that extended a number of runs in the second half.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jarret Bilbrey, Senior Defensive End, San Diego, CA
Bilbrey had an outstanding day for the Lumberajacks as he blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown and registered two sacks against the Bengals.
Co-Special Teams Players of the Week
Hayden Renning, Sophomore Long Snapper, Flagstaff, AZ
Andy Bachelier, Sophomore, Long Snapper/Holder, Rio Rico, AZ
While Renning and Bachelier are not going to light up any stat sheet as the long snapper and holder connection on kicks, they have done a terrific job all season and were finally recognized for the steady performance.
Defensive Scout Team Player of the Week
Chase Wilsey, Freshman Linebacker
Wilsey moved from linebacker to safety this week and provided the NAU offense with consistent looks of Idaho State’s secondary.
Offensive Scout Team Player of the Week
Dre Bookman, Freshman Wide Receiver
Bookman had the tough task of emulating ISU’s dangerous receiver Rodrick Rumble and did an excellent job.

Fall Camp Practice 6 & 7 Report – First Double Day Session
On Wednesday the Jacks wrapped up their first full contact practice of the 2012 campaign, and their first two-a-day practice schedule as well. During the double day session the Lumberjacks focused on tempo and effort, as the first practice featured a team full contact session right at the beginning to get the competitive juices flowing early. Moreover, since both the morning and afternoon practices were inside the Skydome, they both featured loud music for the players. While the double day practice session can be grueling, the Lumberjacks showed great mental toughness while finishing the second practice with an extended conditioning period. Some players who stuck out during the two practices on Wednesday were tight end Dejzon Walker, offensive lineman Kyle Walker, cornerback Devin Willis, and safety Lucky Dozier.
While Thursday was a day off from practice for the Lumberjacks, it doesn’t mean they were not working hard. Thursday was filled with meetings and weight room workouts for the players. Today (Friday) the Jacks are back on the field for another double day practice session with the morning practice scheduled for helmets and shoulder pads at 10:30 AM and afternoon session featuring a full pads, full contact, scrimmage from 5:30-7:30 PM inside the Skydome. The scrimmage will be an opportunity for many players battling for depth chart positions to demonstrate their ability.
