Over the weekend of February 22nd – 24th the Special Olympics of Arizona held their regional competition in Flagstaff. NAU Football student-athletes eagerly assisted with the competitions as over 50 NAU football student-athletes volunteered their time, and tallied a total of over 300 community service hours assisting the Special Olympics of Arizona and its competitors during the events.

WELCOME BACK JACKS
The Football Lumberjacks closed out their 2011 fall camp on Thursday, August 25, 2011, with a busy day for the student-athletes. The morning began with the team participating in the annual “Welcome Back Jacks” campaign which helps incoming freshmen and returning students move into their new homes in the dormitories on campus. The “Welcome Back Jacks” campaign’s mission is to help ease the transition for students and parents who are moving into the dormitories. This has become an annual event and one that NAU Football is proud to participate in.
SCRIMMAGE
The long day for the Lumberjacks concluded with the camp’s final scrimmage in the evening. The scrimmage was a competitive battle which featured each unit (offense and defense) working in selected scenarios.
PEP RALLY & FIRST HOME SOCCER GAME
On Friday, the Jacks will be participating in the Movie on the Square Pep Rally at Heritage Square at 5:30 PM. Come join the Lumberjacks as they prepare Flagstaff for the upcoming season, and find out who Coach Souers will name as the 2011 starting quarterback. Following the pep rally the team will be attending the first home soccer game at the newly renovated Lumberjack Stadium at 7:00 PM. See you there!
Hey Lumberjack fans, be sure to keep your eyes open for the 2011 NAU Football Mini Schedules. These will be going out in the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce mailer September 1st and will be hung up in local business around town. Be sure to keep your eyes open for them and grab one if you can. Larger posters, magnets, and pocket schedules are soon to follow!
These mini posters focus and emphasize:
- The ongoing Sky Dome Rennovation
- NAU Football Alumni Weekend which is scheduled for September 10th, 2011, against Ft. Lewis and is also the Dome Reopening. (More details about this to come!!!)
- The fact that there are 6 home games this year; One against the defending National Champion Eastern Washington Eagles and another against the rival Grizzlies from the University of Montana
- And NAU Football’s excellence in Community Service & Academics

NAU student athletes and staff members participated in the 15th annual Fourth of July Parade in downtown Flagstaff. The parade has become a local and regional favorite and is quickly becoming a tradition for NAU Athletics as well. Here are some pictures from the event!

Every year the NAU football team takes a break from practicing and assists new NAU students move into their dorm rooms. This annual event gives the new students a little help on a hectic day as well as a chance to meet some of our players. Today Jack players helped from 2 to 4:30 pm. Later tonight they will have positional meetings in preparation for practice and a short scrimmage tomorrow.
