The NAU Football program wrapped up the 2012 High Mountain & Big Man Challenge this past weekend. The camps involved a small school 7 on 7 passing tournament on Thursday along with a Big Man Challenge for linemen, an individual prospect skill camp on Friday, and a large school 7 on 7 passing tournament and Big Man Challenge on Saturday. The camps in 2012 featured over 1,500 prospective student-athletes, a new total record for the three days.
The camps were highlighted with Saturday’s Large School competitions. Saturday’s Large School results for the Big Man Challenge were:
3rd Place – Chaparral High School
2nd Place – Saguaro High School
1st Place – Desert Vista High School
Saturday’s 7 on 7 Tournament was VERY competitive and featured many back and forth games. However, none were more competitive than the championship game which featured Basha High School against Mountain Pointe High School. Mountain Pointe scored a go-ahead touchdown with 24 seconds left. Basha began to drive down the field and on the final play threw a pass to the end-zone to a seemingly wide open receiver. However, at the last second a Mountain Pointe defensive player made a play on the ball, out of nowhere, and intercepted the pass to seal the game. Mountain Pointe claimed the championship axe for 2012 while Basha claimed the runner up axe. All in all, it was a fitting finish to a great weekend!
